Ways to Remove Leg Hair

Shaving is the tried-and-true method for removing unwanted hair. Unfortunately, razors only take off leg hair down to the skin's surface, so it starts to grow back immediately. To keep your legs hair-free, you'll have to commit to shaving your legs at least every other day.

For the closest shave, dampen the skin with warm water and always use shaving cream and a sharp razor. Shave in the opposite direction of hair growth. Be careful to avoid cuts while shaving. If you do nick yourself, apply a bandage right away to keep blood loss at a minimum.

Depilatory Creams.

Use a depilatory cream if you want your leg hair gone fast. These creams use complex chemicals to quickly dissolve the hair down to the root. For best results, soften the skin with warm water to open the hair follicles. Apply the cream and leave it on for the recommended time. If it doesn't take off all the hair, repeat the process. You'll notice hair takes longer to grow back with this method than with shaving--but to keep your legs smooth, you'll have to use depilatory creams at least once a week.

Unfortunately, these chemicals also can irritate the skin, so be sure your skin isn't sensitive to the cream before applying and never leave a depilatory cream on longer than recommended.

Waxing and Sugaring.

Waxing or sugaring pulls the hair out from its root, underneath the surface of the skin. As with shaving or using depilatory creams, it's necessary to be consistent with waxing or sugaring for consistently smooth skin--and you'll need at least ј inch of hair for the wax or sugar to grab on to. That means you'll have some time when your leg hair will be noticeable on your skin.

Ripping the hair out from the roots can be painful, and you run the risk of ingrown hairs as it re-grows. For best results, enlist help from a professional--the process will be less painful and take a lot less time than doing it yourself.

Laser Removal

Laser hair removal uses a specialized laser beam to pass to the hair and destroy it. As with waxing and sugaring, there needs to be some leg hair growth for this method to be effective. After all, the laser needs something to pinpoint. That means you'll have some time when your leg hair will be noticeable on your skin.

Laser hair removal works best on light skin with dark hair because the laser is attracted to the darker pigments. People with dark skin risk burning their skin with laser hair removal. Also, laser hair removal isn't cheap, and it will take several visits with a professional to eliminate leg hair completely and keep it from coming back.
